iPad Review

So I was thinking of whether to get an iPad or not. It seems to be one of the coolest gadgets atm.

Here's what i thought after playing around with it in the apple store:

The Hardware

The Good

  • It's a beautiful thing to hold in your hands. After spending the better part of a week with it, my iPhone 3G feels almost toy-like.
  • The dedicated orientation lock switch on the side is a welcome addition, making the iPad usable while lying down.
  • Surprisingly readable in sunlight, but that's not to say it's an ideal device to take to the beach.
  • Battery life is the real surprise here - it wipes the floor with any other portable device I've used. We're talking heavy, all day use for anything other than 3D gaming.
  • It's incredibly responsive, though HTML rendering is its Achilles' heel.
  • Absolutely no fan noise or heat.
  • Bluetooth keyboard support.

The Bad

  • It's just too heavy to use without holding it with two hands or propping it up on something.
  • It's too fragile to throw around like a magazine. You'll want to show it off, but will have trouble turning your back on a clumsy or inebriated friend using it.
  • The iPad's pixel density of 132 pixels per inch (ppi) is noticeably less than the iPhone's 163ppi.
  • At night, the eyestrain factor is there, regardless of brightness.
  • The lack of a USB port is just inexcusable when even Microsoft has just released an update for the Xbox 360 that allows it to store data on commodity USB drives (and you can bet they were making a killing on those proprietary hard drives).
  • The built-in speaker is horrible - a real shame.

The iPad ranges from around $500-$900ish, should while this may be a bit pricey. Might as well just get a reasonable laptop.

Fifa World Cup 2010

The 2010 FIFA World Cup will be the 19th FIFA World Cup, the premier international football tournament. It is scheduled to take place between 11 June and 11 July 2010 in South Africa. The 2010 FIFA World Cup will be the culmination of a qualification process that began in August 2007 and involved 204 of the 208 FIFA national teams. As such, it matches the 2008 Summer Olympics as the sports event with the most competing nations.

This will be the first time that the tournament has been hosted by an African nation, after South Africa beat Morocco and Egypt in an all-African bidding process. This decision left the Oceania Football Confederation as the only confederation yet to host the FIFA World Cup. Italy are the defending champions. The draw for the finals took place on 4 December 2009 in Cape Town.

Top 5 Basketball Shoes

These are my pick of the Top 5 Greatest Basketball shoes to be created. My ratings are based on the revolution of shoes that the wearers of the shoes made towards street culture and kicks(sneakers) in general, rather then mass appealing generic basketball shoes.

Here are my Top 5:

5. Converse Weapons

One of the first mass production basketball shoe, to offer proper ankle protection. The weapons were most iconic worn by the two biggest players in NBA, in a time before Michael Jordan's era- Larry Bird and Magic Johnson. Both rivals but also greatest of friends off-court.

The weapons were to become one of Converse's best selling shoes, with the ranks of Converse Chuck Taylors.

4. Vince Cartier's Nike Shox

One of the most iconic and most memorable dunks of all of the Olympic Games of basketball, or perhaps, one of the top 5 greatest dunks in all of time in international competitions would be the 2000 Sydney Olympics, where Cartier dunked over 7'2 foot French Center 'Wiess' http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ieXETZVLJa4&feature=fvw

The nike shox runners now seen are also quite similar to the soles(blue bit on the shoes) on Carter's Bball shoes

3. Air Max 1 Charles Barkley 180

Nicknamed "Sir Charles" for his aggressive and outspoken demeanor, and "The Round Mound of Rebound" for his unusual build and talent, Barkley established himself as one of the NBA's most dominating power forwards. Sir Charles was part of he1992-93 USA Dream Team, winning gold.

2. Air Jordan 1

The first Air Jordan(Js) shoe to be released, the series, which would eventually turn out to be one of the most successfully series of shoes to be created. This shoe is still one of the most sorta after Js to be sorta after. Shoes such as Nike High dunks and nike SBs structure have been copied from AJ 1. The AJ 1 has now been customised to give similar but different sizes, namely the AJ retros.

1. Air Jordan XI(11)

One of the most sort after Js from the series, with it's great looks and technology at the time. AJ 11 despite varies remixes of the shoe, remains one of the most clean and well respected Js in the series of 23 J. This shoe was featured in the Looney Tunes movie "Space Jam", where Jordan was wearing the 11s.

iPhone 4G Leaked

Some stooge working for Apple left the iphone 4g concept in a pub and the guys from GIZMODO picked it up . While Apple may tinker with the final packaging and design of the final phone, it's clear that the features in this lost-and-found next-generation iPhone are drastically new and drastically different from what came before. Here's the detailed list of our findings:

What's new

• Front-facing video chat camera
• Improved regular back-camera (the lens is quite noticeably larger than the iPhone 3GS)
• Camera flash
• Micro-SIM instead of standard SIM (like the iPad)
• Improved display. It's unclear if it's the 960x640 display thrown around before—it certainly looks like it, with the "Connect to iTunes" screen displaying much higher resolution than on a 3GS.
• What looks to be a secondary mic for noise cancellation, at the top, next to the headphone jack
• Split buttons for volume
• Power, mute, and volume buttons are all metallic

What's changed

• The back is entirely flat, made of either glass (more likely) or ceramic or shiny plastic in order for the cell signal to poke through. Tapping on the back makes a more hollow and higher pitched sound compared to tapping on the glass on the front/screen, but that could just be the orientation of components inside making for a different sound
• An aluminum border going completely around the outside
• Slightly smaller screen than the 3GS (but seemingly higher resolution)
• Everything is more squared off
• 3 grams heavier
• 16% Larger battery
• Internals components are shrunken, miniaturized and reduced to make room for the larger battery

Retro-games win!

The PlayStation 3, one of the top video gaming consoles which is able to render 3D scenery that is close to reality. Then they decided to sell games like the old super street fighter II but "remixed" in HD! and guess what.....it was a big hit!

Most people who owned a family computer or a Super Nintendo back in the day would remember this game. It doesn't take hours of playing and practice to have fun, unlike modern fighting games.
It's being sold on the PlayStation Network for around 23.00 USD, and i can honestly say its the best 20 bucks I've spent.
